18/1/13 Behalal.org Team
We spoke to Stephen Humphreys, Head of Communciation at the Food Standards Agency yesterday who was not able to confirm if any Halal lines have also been affected but advised that his counterpart in Ireland Jane Ryder should be contacted to clarify details of the testing done. An email was sent to her and we are awaiting a response.
Focus shifts to the competency of Halal certification organisations following pork and horse DNA found in burgers in EU

Amid fears that Halal products may also be affected by the recent findings by the Food Standards Agency of Ireland, the attention of Muslims have moved to the standards and operations of Halal certification organisations worldwide that confirm that the end product indeed is halal.

UK: Project work to have healthier Halal food
February 2012
We are kick starting our project work for 2012, to get businesses serving halal food to give us healthier food; halal/tayyab food that is good for you when eaten in moderation. Lots of research to show that often some dishes can be loaded with high calories and too much salt, saturated fats and trans fats.

Indonesia: Vaccination: The gambling game
26/12/11 health.asiaone.com

It is now a common thing to hear people questioning the safety of vaccinations. There were two cases over the last two months; a diphtheria outbreak in East Java and the deaths of two toddlers in Jakarta, confusing mothers in our country about vaccinations for their children.
Our objectives:
To educate and inform those wishing to follow the halal diet. To provide objective information to allow consumers to make an informed choice.
Provide up to date news on what’s happening globally; on halal meat/food/drink, things used, diet and health.
Work towards better understanding and application of halal and tayyab requirements to improve standards in halal things eaten and used.
Protect and promote the halal way of life in line with the Teachings of the Quran and sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh).
To work with those in industry, governments and with organisations for mutual benefit.
behalal.org is a platform for those with an interest in the halal diet and lifestyle to “join us, help us” to help others.
Our objectives are not written in stone and we will review and change them accordingly.

UK: Campaigning for organic ‘kitemark’
30/6/11 www.thejc.com/news
It’s a Friday night staple in Israel and the US, but a kosher and organic certified roast chicken has never graced a Shabbat table in the UK.
However, growing interest in ethically reared meat has prompted campaigners to launch a petition to get kosher meat certified organic, or “organically reared”.
